The Gibb part 2

Image
From Drysdale we plugged on over the corrugations to Manning Gorge. The campsite was full and dusty but by the side of a beautiful  and refreshing  river/water hole to wash away the dust and corrugation jitters. The next morning we got up early to do the walk into the gorge. You first have to swim the river to start the walk. You place your stuff in half barrels you float over the river. The walk in was hard but not as hard as Emma, but worth it as the falls and swim at the end was very nice After a few days we drove via Galvans Gorge which was a small walk and lovely small waterfall with some Aboriginal art on the overlooking  ledges.   We camped at Silent Grove and walked in to Bell Gorge. You arrive at the top of the falls and I did the walk over and down to the base of the falls. Some wantobe aging rock star. This turned out to be our final gorge of the Gibb as the car decided it had had enough  and the Park Brake Service light came on. As this had happened ...

Gorging on Gorgeous Gorges on the Gibb

Image
After a day exploring  the dubious delights of Wyndham and a three hour wait for a haircut and bash plate repairs in Kununurra we headed down the Gibb River Road.  View from 5 Rivers lookout Wyndham  Our first stop was El Questro station. We had a nice campsite by the river but as seems the way with Discovery parks they have nice facilities, but really pack in the people and the ratio of facilities to people is not great. Despite thi s, we loved our time here visiting Zebedee Springs and El Questro gorge. The walk in to El Questro involved lots of rock hopping through a narrowing palm filled gorge to a swimming hole. 1 On the way to our next stop at Ellenbrae station we did the walk in to Emma Gorge. Again the walk involved lots of boulder hopping on the way to a fantastic waterfall. This walk was quite busy and somewhere near the top I managed to strain a side muscle twisting around. We had a swim and on the way back down Alison slid on a rock and fell and cut her knee a...

East Kimberly

Image
We have finally reached Western Australia and the East Kimberley. We had three nights at Lake Argyle squashed into the small sites they have there in a great location on the lake. There we went on the sunset cruise on the vast lake, spotting freshwater crocodiles then floating off the boat with pool noodles while they throw you beer cans to drink. Bizzaire but fun. We day tripped into Kununurra and decided we probably could miss staying there.  Some Influencer Cheers Where's Ali From there we went down to Purnululu National Park . Tough road in, 51 approx dips/water crossings (about a quarter with water). Bash plate on car got bashed on a rock I couldn't see in one crossing, I tied it back on with my favourite red strap and continued. It is a fantastic place to walk and camp and one of our highlights so far. We walked , scrambled and rock hopped into some mindblowing places and collapsed to our campsite happy we had the capacity  for a quick shower in our camper.  We then...
