Savannah Way and (mostly) averted disaster

First some good bits. From our great site at Lake Tinaroo we started west. We pulled in at Undarra to do the Lava Tube tour. This  is a a must do. Amazing geology and landscape, and a well run, and informative  tour. We loved it there and wished we had more time but we had a booking at Talaroo Hot Springs.
Talaroo was an Indigenous run site at an old station near some hot rock springs by the Einasleigh River.  Great campsite with friendly communal fires and a enjoyable tour by a young Ewamian guide who explained the history and culture of the Springs followed with a soak in a pool fed by the Springs We  had a slap up dinner for our 36th wedding anniversary. See photo below.
After a few nights  at Talaroo we headed out excited for our next stop in Cobbold Gorge. This is where things fell apart. Not far from Talaroo  on the road to Georgetown we heard a loud screeching noise from the car wheel. I looked for a rock but couldn't find anything, so we set up Starlink, called the RACQ which turned out to be in Georgetown about 50 km away. After about 30 minutes they called and decided to just send the tow truck as otherwise we might be by the  side of road for many hours. Eventually the tow truck arrived with a young quiet driver who loaded the car and hooked up the van to the tow truck. We all climbed in the tow truck and drove towards Georgetown.
After about 10km I heard a noise then the driver said "I am so sorry " and when looking in the rear view all I could see was no van and a big cloud of dust about 100m back. After what felt like half a century of time the dust cleared to show this.
The van had somehow come unhitched from the tow truck. It ground along for 50m then parked itself on the side of the road. It had not flipped, gone down one of the many ditches and culverts along the road, crossed into the oncoming traffic nor thankfully  killed anybody.
The distressed young tow truck operator drove us back to Georgetown,  we had to leave the Domino there. Anyway, long story short, they put us up for a few nights in a motel and are fixing the trailer. Amazingly it only needs a new hitch, nothing else. Car was fixed in 5 minutes when they got out the rock from behind brake pad.

From Georgetown we did a day trip down in Cobbold Gorge to do our booked tour.  Cobbold is an incredible Gorge only discovered in the 90s. You  walk over it on a glass bridge and tour up it in boats.
After a few days while waiting for our van repairs we decided we had had enough  of the delights of the Georgetown motel and returned for a few nights at Undarra  in a cabin doing walks we had missed.
Addendum
We had an excellent  sunset tour then returned the next day to get our van. They had replaced the hitch and we got back on the road towards Leichart Lagoon.
